{"id":24319,"date":"2021-12-08T10:02:00","date_gmt":"2021-12-08T15:02:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/irishexaminerusa.com\/wp\/?p=24319"},"modified":"2021-12-08T12:04:43","modified_gmt":"2021-12-08T17:04:43","slug":"belfast-park-closed-due-to-avian-flu-outbreak","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/irishexaminerusa.com\/wp\/?p=24319","title":{"rendered":"Belfast Park Closed Due To Avian Flu Outbreak"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"629\" height=\"360\" src=\"http:\/\/irishexaminerusa.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/2-54130892.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-24320\" srcset=\"https:\/\/irishexaminerusa.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/2-54130892.png 629w, https:\/\/irishexaminerusa.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/2-54130892-300x172.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 629px) 100vw, 629px\" \/><figcaption><em>Sixteen dead birds have been removed from Waterworks Park in north Belfast (PA)<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A Belfast park has been closed following an outbreak of avian flu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sixteen dead birds have been removed from Waterworks Park in north Belfast, the city council said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The council added that the park has been closed until further notice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a statement, the local authority said: \u201cWe have engaged an independent expert to review our approach and management plan to deal with this ongoing issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are also arranging for an on-call vet to be available to assess sick and dying birds and, if required, humanely euthanize these birds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs the outbreak continues to escalate across Northern Ireland, as a precautionary approach the Waterworks Park will close until further notice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re continuing to work alongside and seek advice from the Department of Agriculture Environment and Rural Affairs (Daera) and the Public Health Agency in response to this issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe would ask the public not to visit Waterworks Park at this time as we continue to manage the ongoing situation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last week, a suspected case of avian flu was detected in Co Tyrone.
