Liverpool swept aside Porto in the Estadio do Dragao for the third-successive time as a 5-1 victory put them two points clear in their Champions League group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jurgen Klopp\u2019s side have scored 14 times in their last three visits and his deadly duo of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane have been responsible for nine of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is a record of which former Liverpool striker Roger Hunt, whose death was announced earlier in the day, would have approved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Salah scored twice and Mane once before Roberto Firmino, a late substitute, scored twice inside five minutes as the man he replaced \u2013 Diogo Jota \u2013 was the one to miss out against his former club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Porto\u2019s last defeat had been in April\u2019s quarter-final to eventual champions Chelsea but there was no halting Liverpool\u2019s impressive record in this stadium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Few can stop Salah this season \u2013 only Burnley have kept him out \u2013 and a sixth-successive scoring game brought up his 30th and 31st Champions League goals, going past Samuel Eto\u2019o as the competition\u2019s second-highest scoring African player after Didier Drogba (44).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mane was reaching landmarks of his own as he joined Michael Owen as the club\u2019s third-highest all-time European goalscorer on 22 after benefiting from some bizarre goalkeeping by Diogo Costa just before the interval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also joined Steven Gerrard and Salah in scoring 20 Champions League goals for the club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The result at least eased the major headache Klopp had given before he left Merseyside when Trent Alexander-Arnold did not even get on the plane to Portugal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>Assessment of a groin injury has revealed the problem is more serious than initially thought when he left training early and he is doubtful for Sunday\u2019s visit of Manchester City.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe didn\u2019t travel. It doesn\u2019t look great for the City game as well,\u201d said Klopp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the second time in 10 days utility man James Milner stepped in at the last minute when the England defender felt ill on the morning of the match against Crystal Palace, although the 35-year-old had a little more notice this time around.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was up against Luis Diaz but this season\u2019s Primeira Division\u2019s leading scorer was restricted to just one weak shot which Alisson Becker comfortably saved as the veteran dominated, even providing an Alexander-Arnold-style assist for Mane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Porto had their own last-minute injury problems when the 38-year-old Pepe, a doubt on the eve of the game, pulled out in the warm-up and midfielder Otavio \u2013 one of the few survivors from the clubs\u2019 previous meeting \u2013 lasted just 14 minutes due to a hamstring problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those problems intensified with Liverpool\u2019s first genuine attack in the 18th minute when Curtis Jones, enjoying a stand-out night in Portugal, cut in on his right foot to fire in a low shot which Costa weakly parried into Zaidu Sanusi and Salah pounced from close range.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If questions were asked about the Porto\u2019s goalkeeper for that, his decision-making seconds before half-time beggared belief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A sweeping move from left wing to right allowed Milner to whip a low cross into the six-yard area where Costa inexplicably put his arms behind his back to allow the ball to run to Mane, who gratefully accepted a fifth goal in five matches against the Portuguese side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Costa denied Jota\u2019s fierce drive early in the second half before Salah showed him how it should be done as the excellent Jones\u2019 driving run from deep teed up the Egypt international, who took one touch before firing past Costa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jota hit the side netting before Klopp afforded himself the luxury of resting Salah, Mane and Milner for Sunday\u2019s City game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mehdi Taremi took advantage 15 minutes from time with a diving header but there was still time for more Costa eccentrics as he raced out of his goal for a ball he was never going to get.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Firmino rolled the ball past him from 30 yards and \u2013 despite the goalkeeper\u2019s despairing run and dive \u2013 the shot crept over the line before benefitting from a deflected Jones shot to slot home a second.<\/p>\n
