Climate protesters gathered in Dublin city center on Wednesday as politicians returned for the new D\u00e1il term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Members of Extinction Rebellion and other activists gathered outside Leinster House on Wednesday morning for a demonstration ahead of TDs reconvening after the summer recess.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They were joined by campaigners demanding a 100 per cent redress scheme for housing defects caused by the mineral mica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A protest was also set to take place on Wednesday evening to draw attention to Ireland\u2019s housing crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Climate protesters carried signs and placards and called for greater Government action on climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Angela Deegan, from Dublin, said: \u201cI have been aware of the climate crisis for many years now and how bad it\u2019s getting and how little action there is in our Government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe need things to change in our systems, so people cannot be emitting so much greenhouse gas.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She said Ireland needs to cut the size of the national herd and to better insulate buildings as part of a range of measures to reduce the impact of climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some protesters expressed disappointment at the Greens\u2019 record in Government so far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eamon Ryan\u2019s party gathered in south Dublin earlier this week for a think-in, and the leader said that, in the coming months, they would build on the successes of their first year in the coalition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Government\u2019s latest action plan for tackling climate change will be published in the first week of October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sean Loughran, from Dublin, said he voted for the Green Party at the last election but has been disappointed by the party so far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think they\u2019re moving fast enough,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere hasn\u2019t been an end limit put on combustion engines yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI think we need to move towards a more plant-based food system and there\u2019s no word of that yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m not as optimistic about the Green Party any more.\u201d<\/p>\n
