The Greek-born Australian has been charged with rebuilding Celtic after last year\u2019s disastrous campaign, which saw dreams of 10-in-a-row crumble.<\/p>\n
But the 55-year-old former Socceroos boss reckons his experiences Down Under and in Japan \u2013 where he managed Yokohama F Marinos before taking up the Parkhead job offer \u2013 will allow him to take a fresh approach to the challenges in Glasgow.<\/p>\n
Speaking at his first press conference, Postecoglou said: \u201cI guess what I bring is maybe a different perspective.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve had a different journey from many others. Most of my career has been spent on the other side of the world and in internationals.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery team I\u2019ve coached has had a very clear identity.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think that was one of the reasons I was chosen. In my 25 years in coaching, my teams have always played a certain way.\u201d<\/p>\n
Celtic finished 25 points behind Steven Gerrard\u2019s unbeaten Scottish Premiership winners Rangers last term and Postecoglou is in no doubt about the scale of the task facing him as he looks to return Celtic to the top.<\/p>\n
He said: \u201cIt is a massive challenge. But as a manager you always get opportunities where it\u2019s a massive challenge. You don\u2019t really walk into places where it\u2019s running smoothly.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a process where you have to go through certain steps. If we play our football, we\u2019ve got a decent chance of success.\u201d<\/p>\n
Celtic spent three months chasing former Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe before the deal collapsed.<\/p>\n
But Postecoglou does not mind being second choice \u2013 or worse.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019re assuming I was second choice,\u201d he said. \u201cI might have been fifth choice\u2026 I don\u2019t know.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt doesn\u2019t really bother me. What\u2019s important is that I\u2019ve been given this opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n
It is a season of change. But after a period of success and what happened last year, it was always going to be a period of change.<\/p>\n
Pundits have estimated Celtic could bring in up to 15 new players this summer.<\/p>\n
On the rebuild required, Postecoglou said: \u201cIt\u2019s fairly extensive. It is a season of change. But after a period of success and what happened last year, it was always going to be a period of change.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut I see it as an opportunity to make changes in the direction I want.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re working very hard but with the players we have existing, they will all be treated on merit. For the ones coming in, we\u2019ll bring in ones who will fit.\u201d<\/p>\n
Incoming Celtic chief executive Dominic McKay said: \u201cThe target for every Celtic manager is success and we\u2019re craving success.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut we want to do that with a style and a panache, which Ange\u2019s teams in Australia and Japan have done.\u201d<\/p>\n
