George Nkencho (27) died in the incident outside his Dublin home in December.<\/p>\n
His sister said his death was untimely, unplanned and unwanted.<\/p>\n
Gloria Nkencho delivered a eulogy at the start of her brother\u2019s funeral Mass at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in the capital on Saturday.<\/p>\n
She said: \u201cThis is in memory of my brother, for everything he stood for, for all that he believed in.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was untimely, unplanned and unwanted, but he is welcomed into the bosom of the Lord.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe is at peace, he is happy, my family will be at peace.\u201d<\/p>\n
His sister said: \u201cRemember George for not what they said about him, but for who he is and for who he will forever be in our hearts.<\/p>\n
\u201cA brother, a son, a nephew, a best friend, a cousin, a team-mate, a classmate, a partner.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe is at peace and we love you.\u201d<\/p>\n
Just 10 people were allowed inside the church in line with Covid-19 rules, and about 100 friends and neighbors gathered outside. Some held posters in Mr Nkencho’s memory, including Black Lives Matter.<\/p>\n
Another displayed his image and said: \u201cFarewell George \u2013 we won\u2019t forget, we\u2019ll stand for justice and truth.\u201d<\/p>\n
The hearse carried a picture of the victim alongside his white coffin. A CD, a flag and notebook were placed on the coffin inside the church by members of Mr Nkencho\u2019s family.<\/p>\n
The cleric who conducted the service said: \u201cLet the law do its work as investigations are still ongoing.<\/p>\n
\u201cBe patient with the appropriate authorities, that is the only advice I will give to the whole family.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Nkencho was shot dead by armed garda\u00ed outside his home in Clonee on December 30th last year.<\/p>\n
The Garda Sioch\u00e1na Ombudsman Commission (Gsoc) has launched an investigation into the shooting, while members of his family have called for a public inquiry to be held.<\/p>\n
The funeral had been delayed by two postmortems \u2013 one carried out by the State and one by a private pathologist conducted at the request of the family.<\/p>\n
Mr Nkencho moved from Nigeria to Ireland with his parents as a young child. It is understood the Nkencho family had considered burying George in Nigeria but finances and Covid-19 restrictions made this impossible.<\/p>\n
