{"id":1861,"date":"2018-06-02T07:48:09","date_gmt":"2018-06-02T12:48:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/irishexaminerusa.com\/wp\/?p=1861"},"modified":"2018-06-02T07:48:09","modified_gmt":"2018-06-02T12:48:09","slug":"magdalene-scheme-to-be-expanded-in-scope","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/irishexaminerusa.com\/wp\/?p=1861","title":{"rendered":"Magdalene Scheme to be Expanded in Scope"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/irishexaminerusa.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/charlieFlanaganDefiant_large.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"325\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1862\" srcset=\"https:\/\/irishexaminerusa.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/charlieFlanaganDefiant_large.jpg 600w, https:\/\/irishexaminerusa.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/charlieFlanaganDefiant_large-300x163.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/>The Magdalene Restorative Justice Scheme is to be expanded to include 14 adjoining institutions.<\/p>\n<p>The Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan announced a &#8220;general&#8221; payment will be made for the entire period of residency and a &#8220;work&#8221; payment for the period of work in a laundry.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Justice said central guidance will also be drawn up on the development and operation of any future redress schemes.<\/p>\n<p>The Minister said: \u201cI am pleased to announce that the Government has agreed to my proposal to apply the Magdalen Restorative Justice Scheme to women who worked in the laundries and were resident in these adjoining institutions.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is an important step in implementing the key recommendation of the Ombudsman.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>List of 14 adjoining institutions<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>St. Dominick\u2019s Industrial School, Waterford<\/li>\n<li>Gracepark Training Centre, Waterford<\/li>\n<li>Mayfield Training Centre, Waterford<\/li>\n<li>St. Finbarr\u2019s Industrial School, Cork<\/li>\n<li>Marymount Training Centre, Cork<\/li>\n<li>St. George\u2019s Industrial School, Limerick<\/li>\n<li>St. Joseph\u2019s Reformatory School, Limerick<\/li>\n<li>Rosemount Training Centre, Limerick<\/li>\n<li>An Grian\u00e1n Training Centre, High Park, Dublin<\/li>\n<li>St. Joseph\u2019s Industrial School, High Park, Dublin<\/li>\n<li>Martanna House Hostel, High Park, Dublin<\/li>\n<li>St. Anne\u2019s Hostel, Sean McDermott Street, Dublin<\/li>\n<li>St Aidan\u2019s Industrial School, New Ross, Co.
