Irish\u00a0musician Brendan Francis “Brush” Shiels<\/strong> from\u00a0County Dublin<\/strong>, is best known for being the front man of\u00a0Gary Moore<\/strong>‘s first band,\u00a0Skid Row<\/strong>. An Irish blues rocker of the late ’60s and early ’70s, it was based in Dublin and fronted by bass guitarist Shiels. The band is particularly notable for being the one\u00a0 in which both Phil Lynott and guitarist Moore first played professionally.<\/p>\n Born October 24th, 1945, in Limerick, Shiels had a TV show on RT\u00c9 called\u00a0Off yer Brush<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0and was twice managed by boyband mentor\u00a0Louis Walsh. Providing musical accompaniment, he appeared regularly on the\u00a0Joe Duffy\u00a0Liveline<\/strong>\u00a0radio program on\u00a0RT\u00c9\u00a0and performed live around venues in the UK and Ireland.<\/p>\n Brush also enjoyed a brief spell as a footballer representing\u00a0Bohemian F.C.\u00a0in the 1960s. Shiels has helped Bohemians recent times by making appearances at fundraising events to try and ensure the survival of his former club.<\/p>\n In 1971, Billboard\u00a0praised Shiels, Bridgeman and Moore for their album\u00a034 Hours\u00a0suggesting the “lads will travel far.” That they did, in that Shiels played at such internationally known music venues such as\u00a0Fillmore West\u00a0and\u00a0Whisky a Go Go. In 1986, he played at the\u00a0Self Aid\u00a0benefit concert\u00a0for unemployed in Ireland. But in December 2012, he suffered a heart failure caused by a viral infection and was admitted to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown for two weeks In 2013, Brush was one of the legends from the Irish entertainment business to perform at the\u00a0Philip Chevron\u00a0testimonial.
