But Chris Smalling has made a permanent switch to Roma, who it is understood completed the 15 million euros (\u00a313.6m) signing when the Italian FA processed the paperwork only a minute before the country\u2019s transfer deadline.<\/p>\n
In what seemed to be the final act of a hectic day, United also announced the signing of 18-year-old Uruguayan winger Facundo Pellistri, who has signed a five-year deal after completing a move for a fee understood to be 10million euros (\u00a39m) from Penarol in his home country.<\/p>\n
United\u2019s apparent reluctance to meet Borussia Dortmund\u2019s \u00a3108m price tag for Jadon Sancho has seemingly led them to snap up Uruguay striker Cavani on a free transfer following his release by Paris St Germain earlier in the summer.<\/p>\n
The 33-year-old, who has signed a 12-month deal with the option to extend for a further year, has scored 341 goals in 556 matches since moving to Europe in 2007 for Palermo, Napoli and PSG, where he won six league titles.<\/p>\n
Cavani is the most prolific striker in PSG history with 200 goals and one of his first games could be against his former employers after United were drawn in the same Champions League group as the French giants.<\/p>\n

Cavani and left-back Telles, who it is understood has joined United from Porto for a fee of \u00a313.5m plus \u00a31.8m in potential add-ons, have completed their moves a day after United\u2019s 6-1 thrashing at the hands of Tottenham.<\/p>\n
Telles has signed a four-year deal that includes the option to extend for a further year.<\/p>\n

Either side of the Cavani and Telles announcements, United confirmed the capture of Diallo, who is set to join from Atalanta at the start of next year subject to a medical, personal terms and a work permit.<\/p>\n
The PA news agency reported that United have agreed to pay 21 million euros (\u00a319m) plus 20 million euros (\u00a318.1m) in add-ons for the 18-year-old Ivorian.<\/p>\n
Smalling, meanwhile, leaves after 10 years and 323 appearances with United, who claimed two Premier League titles, one FA Cup and a Europa League crown during his time at Old Trafford.<\/p>\n
He impressed while spending last season on loan at Roma and has now made a permanent return to the Italian capital, where he has put pen to paper on a three-year contract that runs until 30 June 2023.<\/p>\n
\u201cNothing in life worth having comes easy,\u201d Smalling said on Roma\u2019s website. \u201cMy head and my heart has always been in Rome. I am delighted to now be yours.\u201d<\/p>\n
United also announced the signing of teenage center-back Willy Kambwala from Sochaux.<\/p>\n
PA understands the fee for the 16-year-old, who has captained France\u2019s Under-17s, could rise to four million euros (\u00a33.6m) with add-ons. He will immediately link up with Neil Ryan\u2019s Under-18s squad.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Sergio Romero\u2019s wife has criticized the treatment of United\u2019s back-up goalkeeper in an Instagram post.<\/p>\n
