It should not be polluting what is an otherwise good and necessary piece of law. And all possible steps to avoid needing these clauses should be taken.

“So, I say to the minister I’m undecided today as to which way I will vote this evening because I respect the Government has moved and compromised, and I do understand that’s a difficult thing for governments to do.

“But I ask the minister to give me clarity – if I walk through the lobbies today, am I breaking the law? If I walk through the lobbies today, will the law be broken as a result of me doing this?”

Share this:

Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)

Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)

Click to share on Google+ (Opens in new window)

Click to print (Opens in new window)

A senior Tory MP has expressed regret at the “hurt” her words caused while serving as Northern Ireland secretary.
