\"\"What can I say about this man? Only that he is a genius and what he brings to the table is only fabulous so here we go. Ronan Tynan\u00a0is an Irish\u00a0tenor\u00a0singer and former Paralympic athlete. He was a member of\u00a0The Irish Tenors\u00a0re-joining in 2011 while continuing to pursue his solo career since May 2004. In the United States, audiences know him for his involvement with that vocal group and for his renditions of \u201cGod Bless America.\u201d He is also known for participating in the\u00a01984\u00a0and\u00a01988 Summer Paralympics. <\/p>\n

Tynan was born in\u00a0Dublin, Ireland. His family home is in\u00a0Johnstown,\u00a0County Kilkenny, Ireland.\u00a0He was born with\u00a0phocomelia, causing both of his lower legs to be underdeveloped; his legs were unusually short (he is now 6-foot 4), his feet were splayed outward, and he had three toes on each foot. He was one of a set of twins; his twin brother Edmond died at 11 months old.<\/p>\n

At age 20, he had his legs\u00a0amputated\u00a0below the knee, after a back injury from a car accident; the injury to his back made it impossible for him to continue using prosthetic legs without the amputation. Within weeks of the accident, he was climbing stairs at his college dormitory on artificial legs. Within a year, Tynan was winning in international competitions in\u00a0track and field athletics. He represented Ireland in the 1984 and 1988 Summer Paralympics, winning four golds, two silvers, and one bronze medal.<\/p>\n

Between 1981 and 1984, he won 18 gold medals from various competitions and set 14 world records. In the following years, Tynan became the first person with a disability to be admitted to the\u00a0National College of Physical Education, in\u00a0Limerick. He worked for about two years in the prosthetics industry, then went to\u00a0Trinity College, became a physician specializing in Orthopedic Sports Injuries, and graduated in 1993.<\/p>\n

Encouraged to also study voice by his father Edmund, Tynan won a series of voice competition awards and joined the Irish Tenors. A devout\u00a0Roman Catholic, Tynan has appeared on\u00a0Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN). At the invitation of New York Archbishop\u00a0Timothy Dolan, he sang at the Archbishop\u2019s installation Mass in\u00a0St. Patrick\u2019s Cathedral\u00a0in April 2009.<\/p>\n

Tynan has sung \u201cGod Bless America\u201d at sporting event venues, such as\u00a0Yankee Stadium\u00a0(during\u00a0New York Yankees\u00a0home Major League Baseball games, including Opening Day, nationally televised games, the last game at the\u00a0old Yankee Stadium, and playoff games) and on several occasions prior to games involving the\u00a0National Hockey League\u2019s\u00a0Buffalo Sabres\u00a0including a performance before 71,217 fans at the\u00a0AMP Energy NHL Winter Classic\u00a0along with Sabres anthem singer Doug Allen, who performed the\u00a0Canadian national anthem, on 1 January 2008, when the Sabres played the\u00a0Pittsburgh Penguins. Tynan has not performed for the Sabres since\u00a0Terrence Pegula\u00a0purchased the team in 2011. Most recently, he sang Eagles Wings at the 2017 Memorial Day Concert.<\/p>\n

In 2004 he sang\u00a0Theme from\u00a0\u201cNew York, New York\u201d\u00a0at the\u00a0Belmont Stakes\u00a0where\u00a0Smarty Jones\u00a0failed in his attempt to win the Triple Crown and less than a week later he was at the\u00a0Washington National Cathedral\u00a0for former United States\u00a0President\u00a0Ronald Reagan\u2019s\u00a0state funeral, where he sang \u201cAmazing Grace\u201d and\u00a0Franz Schubert\u2019s \u201cAve Maria\u201d. Tynan sang for\u00a0George H. W. Bush\u00a0at Bush\u2019s\u00a0Houston\u00a0home on the day of the president\u2019s\u00a0death\u00a0on November 30, 2018. The first song was\u00a0\u201cSilent Night\u201d, while the second was a Gaelic song. Bush\u2019s friend and former aide\u00a0James Baker\u00a0said that while Tynan was singing Silent Night, \u201c[b]elieve it or not, the president was mouthing the words.\u201d Ronan Tynan will be performing on the Andy Cooney\u2019s 23 Annual Cruise of Irish Stars which will sail from January 16-23, 2021 so get on board.
