Statistical modelling was applied to come up with the final results, resulting in 37% of pupils across the province receiving lower grades earlier today.<\/p>\n
The system being used across the UK is similar to the one being used in the Republic to calculate grades for Leaving Certificate.<\/p>\n
A-level and Leaving Certificate exams were cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic with Ireland and the UK instead opting for calculated grades.<\/p>\n
The grades in the UK were awarded based on a combination of teacher professional judgment and statistical modelling, the Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) has said.<\/p>\n
The organization has pledged to ensure standards are maintained.<\/p>\n
The Scottish Government performed a U-turn on Tuesday when it said it would use teachers\u2019 predicted marks without a moderation system believed to favor those from better-off areas.<\/p>\n
England\u2019s Education Secretary Gavin Williamson has told pupils that results from their mock exams could replace their A-level grades.<\/p>\n
A broader scope for appeals will be allowed following this year\u2019s A-level and GCSE awards, Northern Ireland\u2019s exams body said.<\/p>\n
