{"id":14856,"date":"2020-05-27T09:25:07","date_gmt":"2020-05-27T13:25:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/irishexaminerusa.com\/wp\/?p=14856"},"modified":"2020-05-28T09:26:09","modified_gmt":"2020-05-28T13:26:09","slug":"no-plans-to-cancel-this-years-t20-world-cup-says-icc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/irishexaminerusa.com\/wp\/?p=14856","title":{"rendered":"No Plans To Cancel This Year&#8217;s T20 World Cup Says ICC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/irishexaminerusa.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/2.8802903.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"336\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-14857\" srcset=\"https:\/\/irishexaminerusa.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/2.8802903.jpg 600w, https:\/\/irishexaminerusa.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/2.8802903-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/>The International Cricket Council has rejected claims this year\u2019s T20 World Cup will be postponed, insisting a number of contingency plans are being considered.<\/p>\n<p>Given the vagaries of the global coronavirus pandemic, the idea of a tournament involving 16 nations going ahead in Australia from October 18 to November 15 under its current guise seems hopeful at best.<\/p>\n<p>Ireland captain Andrew Balbirnie earlier this month cast doubt on it going ahead, believing the logistical hurdles would be too sizable to overcome, but the ICC says it is investigating a number of possibilities.<\/p>\n<p>A statement from the governing body said: \u201cReports of a postponement of the ICC T20 World Cup 2020 are inaccurate and planning for the event continues whilst a number of contingency plans are being explored in light of the rapidly changing public health situation caused by the Covid-19 virus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The tournament is one of a number of subjects that will be discussed when the ICC board meet on Thursday, when the process for electing the next chair will also be discussed.<\/p>\n<p>The ICC says Shashank Manohar has no intention of seeking re-election for a post he has held since November 2015.<\/p>\n<p>The statement added: \u201cThe ICC board met (on Tuesday) to discuss the process for electing the next chair of the ICC.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo final decision was taken regarding the election process and the subject will be discussed further at the next ICC board meeting on Thursday.
