In February, the adjudicatory chamber of UEFA\u2019s Club Financial Control Body (CFCB) found City had committed \u201cserious breaches\u201d of the financial fair play (FFP) regulations put in place by European football\u2019s governing body.<\/p>\n
The club\u2019s Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) hearing has been listed for June 8-10, with the court\u2019s judgement expected to be announced at some point in July.<\/p>\n
The club were found to have overstated sponsorship revenue in their accounts and in the break-even information submitted to UEFA between 2012 and 2016.<\/p>\n
The CFCB\u2019s adjudicatory chamber said the club also \u201cfailed to co-operate\u201d with the CFCB\u2019s investigators.<\/p>\n
City immediately indicated their intention to appeal against the sanction and said the investigation had been \u201cflawed\u201d and \u201cprejudicial\u201d.<\/p>\n
The club were also fined \u20ac30m.<\/p>\n
FFP was introduced by UEFA at the start of the 2011-12 season as an attempt to prevent clubs falling into serious financial difficulty by overspending.<\/p>\n
All clubs competing in UEFA competitions are expected to operate within their means and meet break-even targets, while dealings have to be transparent.<\/p>\n
City\u2019s statement from February 14, when the sanctions were announced, read: \u201cManchester City is disappointed but not surprised by the announcement by the UEFA adjudicatory chamber.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn December 2018, the UEFA chief investigator publicly previewed the outcome and sanction he intended to be delivered to Manchester City, before any investigation had even begun.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe subsequent flawed and consistently leaked UEFA process he oversaw has meant that there was little doubt in the result that he would deliver.<\/p>\n
\u201cSimply put, this is a case initiated by UEFA, prosecuted by UEFA and judged by UEFA.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith this prejudicial process now over, the club will pursue an impartial judgement as quickly as possible and will therefore, in the first instance, commence proceedings with the Court of Arbitration for Sport at the earliest opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n
UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin, speaking at the confederation\u2019s annual congress in Amsterdam the following month, said he had full faith in the process.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs a lawyer I respect the system. We have the investigatory chamber and the adjudicatory chamber and at the end we have CAS in Lausanne,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor some administrators it\u2019s a problem if you have an independent body. For me it\u2019s a privilege.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have not spoken with any of the members (of the CFCB chambers) before or after (the decision) and didn\u2019t see the case, before or after. As much as I\u2019ve seen now, Manchester City have gone to CAS and let\u2019s wait for the decision.\u201d<\/p>\n
