The England captain admitted he would consider his Spurs future if the north London club stopped \u201cprogressing\u201d.<\/p>\n
The 26-year-old still wants to win trophies at Tottenham, but the Lilywhites have slipped to eighth in the suspended Premier League and remain without silverware since lifting the 2008 League Cup.<\/p>\n
Kane\u2019s current Spurs deal runs until 2024, and he has previously suggested he could stay with his boyhood club for his entire career.<\/p>\n
\u201cObviously I get asked this question a lot,\u201d said Kane, in an Instagram Live chat with Jamie Redknapp.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s one of those things \u2014 I couldn\u2019t say yes and I couldn\u2019t say no.<\/p>\n
\u201cI love Spurs, I\u2019ll always love Spurs but I\u2019ve always said if I don\u2019t feel we\u2019re progressing as a team or going in the right direction, I\u2019m not someone to stay there for the sake of it.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m an ambitious player, I want to improve, get better and become one of the top, top players.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt all depends on what happens as a team and how we progress as a team.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo it\u2019s not a definite I\u2019m going to stay there forever, but it\u2019s not a no either.\u201d<\/p>\n
Tottenham reached the final of last term\u2019s Champions League only to slip to defeat at the hands of Liverpool.<\/p>\n
Well-regarded boss Mauricio Pochettino was sacked in November, to be replaced by Jose Mourinho.<\/p>\n
And despite Spurs continuing to stutter since that switch, Kane revealed his respect for the Portuguese boss.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have got a fantastic team, but for one reason or another we haven\u2019t been able to get those trophies, that you look from the outside and think we\u2019ve got the team to get,\u201d said Kane.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a hard thing to take as a player. I want to win everything we do.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo when we get close it\u2019s hard to take and it starts to build up. But from my point of view all you can do is do the best you can, give your best to win every game and win trophies.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor one reason or another we haven\u2019t quite got there yet. If we do finish the season we\u2019ve got to try to get back into the Champions League spots.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd next year would be the first chance for the gaffer to have a pre-season, and bed his values into the team. So we\u2019ll see what happens.<\/p>\n
\u201cOf course I want to win trophies, and to do that sooner rather than later.\u201d<\/p>\n
Asked about working with Mourinho, Kane continued: \u201cIt\u2019s been good. What you see is what you get. He\u2019s an honest guy.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf he likes you, he\u2019ll tell you; if he doesn\u2019t like you, he\u2019ll tell you.<\/p>\n
\u201cFrom my point of view I\u2019ve built a good relationship with him.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s great to work under a manager like Jose. Growing up watching Premier Leagues he was a big part of that.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo it\u2019s another opportunity for me to work with one of the best managers in the world. So I\u2019m excited to see how that relationship unfolds, and I know he\u2019s excited to put his stamp on the team.<\/p>\n
\u201cFrom a players\u2019 point of view we know we\u2019ve got a top, top manager, so it\u2019s up to us to go out and perform.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kane has not played since rupturing a hamstring tendon on January 1, but confirmed he should be ready for action as and when the Premier League returns.<\/p>\n
England\u2019s top-flight is currently suspended until April 30 due to the coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n
He added: \u201cThings are going great, I was doing my rehab well at Spurs up until last week, so I\u2019ll just continue that at home.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhenever we go back I should be ready to integrate with the group.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut I\u2019ll just see how I feel; there\u2019s no rush, no panic and I\u2019m in a good place.\u201d<\/p>\n
