{"id":13385,"date":"2020-03-11T07:19:37","date_gmt":"2020-03-11T11:19:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/irishexaminerusa.com\/wp\/?p=13385"},"modified":"2020-03-11T13:20:47","modified_gmt":"2020-03-11T17:20:47","slug":"mother-of-lyra-mckee-dies-one-month-before-anniversary-of-her-shooting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/irishexaminerusa.com\/wp\/?p=13385","title":{"rendered":"Mother of Lyra McKee Dies One Month Before Anniversary of Her Shooting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/irishexaminerusa.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/lyra_mckee.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-13337\" srcset=\"https:\/\/irishexaminerusa.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/lyra_mckee.jpg 600w, https:\/\/irishexaminerusa.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/lyra_mckee-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/>The mother of murdered journalist Lyra McKee has died a month before the anniversary of her shooting.<\/p>\n<p>The writer and author, 29, was killed by the New IRA last April as she observed rioting in the Creggan estate in Derry.<\/p>\n<p>Joan Lawrie died \u201cpeacefully\u201d in hospital on Tuesday, her daughter Nichola Corner confirmed in a social media post.<\/p>\n<p>She said: \u201cShe is now at peace with her beloved daughter Lyra McKee.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ms Corner said the death of her sister had a profound effect on her mother.<\/p>\n<p>She added that her heart was comforted knowing her mother and sister were together again and she would love them forever.<\/p>\n<p>Ms McKee had been her disabled mother\u2019s main carer.<\/p>\n<p>Another tweet from a relative said: \u201cMy wee Mother In Law, passed away last night of a broken heart. Unable to live without her baby Lyra.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy Wee mother in law whom I loved with all my heart, I Will love you to beyond eternity.
