APAP (the Association of Performing Arts Professionals) again holds its yearly conference in in New York’s Midtown Manhattan Hilton from January 10-14; the Expo Hall opens on Saturday, January 11th. APAP|NYC is also founding partner of\u00a0JanArtsNYC, the most comprehensive annual celebration of the performing arts around the globe and is a convergence of 13 major performing arts industry forums and public festivals. The 2020 event\u00a0dates and descriptions of all 13 partnering events can be found at JanArtsNYC.org.<\/p>\n

Based in Washington, D.C. this national service, advocacy and membership organization developa and supports a robust field and the professionals who work within it. Its 1,600 national and international members represent performing arts centers, municipal and university performance facilities, nonprofit performing arts centers, culturally specific organizations, foreign governments, as well as artist agencies, managers, touring companies, and national consulting practices — and a growing roster of self-presenting artists. APAP works to effect change through advocacy, professional development, resource sharing and civic engagement. \n<\/strong>The APAP Annual Awards Ceremony will honor\u00a0Ping Chong<\/strong>,\u00a0internationally acclaimed artist and pioneer in the use of media in theater;\u00a0Emil Kang<\/strong>,<\/strong>\u00a0former\u00a0Executive and Artistic Director,\u00a0Carolina Performing Arts,\u00a0UNC Chapel Hill;\u00a0and\u00a0The League of American Orchestras (Jesse Rosen, President and CEO; Heather Noonan, Vice President for Advocacy)<\/strong>.The \u201cDistinguished Service Award\u201d recipient will be announced at the ceremony.<\/p>\n

Closing: <\/strong>Ben Folds on \u201cArt, Life and Music\u201d

\n<\/strong>APAP|NYC 2020 closes with\u00a0multi-platinum-selling singer-songwriter Ben Folds <\/strong>who\u00a0will share a message on risk, resilience and creativity based on his book, a collection of essays, anecdotes and lessons about art, life and music.\u00a0In addition to his enormous body of genre-building music with Ben Folds Five, multiple solo albums and numerous collaborative records, he also serves as the first Artistic Advisor to the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center. Mr. Folds is also a highly recognized champion for arts education and music therapy funding in our nation\u2019s public schools. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Americans for the Arts\u2019 Arts Action Fund\u2019s ArtsVote2020 national initiative to advocate for a greater commitment to the nation\u2019s creative economy through improved public policies for the arts and arts education. You can also hear him as host of a podcast series of interviews on arts policies with current 2020 presidential candidates.Folds\u00a0has recently written his critically acclaimed memoir, \u201cA Dream About Lightning Bugs,\u201d which debuted as a\u00a0New York Times\u00a0<\/em>Best Seller.<\/p>\n
