Callum ‘King’ Walsh <\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Wow! What a fight it was, or should I say was not as it did not last the first round. Callum Walsh beat Dean Sutherland by knockout in the first round\u00a0on Sunday, March 16th at Madison Square Garden Theater in New York City. The fight was scheduled to take place over 10 rounds in the Super\u00a0Welterweight\u00a0division, which meant the weight limit was 154 pounds (11 stone or 69.8 kg). I was not able to make it while Out&About, but Brad Balfour covered it, sitting ringside, now I know I should have been there. I would have cheered on my fellow county Cork man.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Callum Walsh comes from Cobh where a famous Heavyweight boxer came from, Jack Doyle, RIP, known as \u201cthe Gorgeous Gael\u201d and it was also the last stopping point for the ill-fated Titanic before it sunk after hitting an iceberg just off Newfoundland. Super-welterweight Callum Walsh(\u201cKing\u201d). I am sure you will be hearing a lot more of Callum very soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now back to what I do best in my Out&About that is very hard work, ha ha, bringing you a little bit of gossip just to lighten your day. While I was Out&About last week I paid a visit to a great Irish establishment called Finnbar\u2019s Irish Pub, which shows Irish and American sports and is located at 340 Route 25A in Mt. Sinai. They do have very good bar food and also happy hour drinks and food specials Monday through Friday from 4-7 pm, you should definitely check it out. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bartenders are again some of the best, providing their customers with professional service and it is highly recommended to visit as they also cover all sports games. It\u2019s well worth a visit on your travels to Long Island. Here are two of the Finnbar\u2019s Irish Pub Bartender staff members Emer Maloney and Alison Schor who have I said are great at their job and you will get a great welcome at Finnbar\u2019s Irish Pub, as I said check it out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Denis Mulcahy<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Last weekend my plans were to head up to Yonkers for the St. Patrick\u2019s Day Parade whose Grand Marshal was none other than the great Denis Mulcahy, the Founder of Project Children. Denis is a native of Rockchapel, County Cork. He was a member of the New York City Police Department from 1962 where he served with the Tactical Patrol Force, Street Crime Unit and the 28th Precinct Detective Squad, before joining the elite Bomb Squad in 1983. He retired in 2002 as First Grade Detective after 33 years of dedicated service to the NYPD. All I can say is congratulations Denis, you got a well-deserved honor in being the Grand Marshal of the Yonkers Saint Patrick\u2019s Day Parade and I am so sorry that I could not make it there to cheer you on as I had some personal reasons for not being there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I also missed the Glen Cove St. Patrick\u2019s Day Parade that was held on Sunday last that honored Joe McDonald as the Grand Marshal who is also the Nassau County VP of the AOH Hibernians, Division 8 of which I am also a member. Again, I have to apologize for not being able to make it as we were babysitting my daughter Christina\u2019s dog Tootsie who I had to take on a ferry from Port Jefferson over to Bridgeport, Connecticut to deliver back on Sunday afternoon. Again, I have to give my apologizes to Joe for not being able to make it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
