We are all familiar with Mike Bowen's column from Downunder. But Mike is as Irish as they come.
Now a resident in Australia, Mike originates from the north side of Cork City and is an accomplished poet and songwriter.
His book "A Time of Secrets" is an inspirational story of a man who rebuilds his life from the ashes.
It's a bold and courageous account of a life lived to the full against the odds.
A really good read that resonates hope with many who have had similar experiences.
Mike sent us this week's poem from his "Straight from the Heart" collection.
So here we have a Corkman, living in Australia writing about Dublin, being read in the United States!
Dublin
I remember autumn in Dublin
and how it melted my heart
I remember so much about Dublin
I really don't know where to start
A grey autumn night at The Peacock
The warmth of her hand in mine
As we walked down O'Connell Street together
To look for some place where to dine
A stroll in the green on Fridays
Just to watch the world, go by
I thought I must be in heaven
But I just couldn't understand why
The feeling of warmth in The Merchant
We sang till our hearts were content
The band sang a song for Ireland
As I wondered what it all meant
There is so much gaiety in Dublin
That it really is hard to describe
This feelin' of love from the Irish
It is something that you feel inside
I hope when I die there's a Dublin
A tranquil place for you and I
A place where all can be happy
Somewhere up in the sky
