This cruise, is in its 21st Year - with 20 years of Cruise for Kids headed by Dermott Kelly and run by the Ancient Order of Hibernan's NYC Division 7 for the charity Project Children founded by NYC Bomb Squad Detective Dennis Mulcahy and his brother Pat (NYPD retired) who brought Catholic and Protestants children from Northern Ireland and put them in summer camp as bunk mates to help break the cycle of sectarian violence by building everlasting friendships.
Dennis was nominated for the Noble Peace Prize twice for Project Children, which, is now currently fully funded after a Herculean effort over 20 years
"We had a great run with Project Children and now we are in our 21st year and will now be doing the Celtic Cruise for charity supporting the Emerald Isle Immigration Center," said Dermott.
John Tully and Sean Claffey, who are currently co- chairing the Celtic Cruise for Charity said, "we have put together a large and effective Board to organize and meet the challenges that fac us and are planning a great event for a Great Charity that needs our help right now."
The EIIC is in great need of your support the doors are closing on immigration coming to the U.S. and with the financial situation in Ireland we need to keep them open now.
This country was built by immigrants, many of them Irish so now is not the time to stop the possibility of Irish immigration.
The Emerald Isle Immigration Center (EIIC) is a not-for-profit organization that provides essential services to the immigration community of New York.
EIIC was born out of the Irish Immigration movement founded in 1988.
The center helps immigrants to contribute and prosper in U. S. society.
For tickets, sponsorship or donations visit www.celticcharity.com.
With the proceeds from the cruise, the EIIC hopes to serve more women like Molly, a cancer patient and Irish immigrant.
Molly worked with an EIIC social worker to identify all options available to her.
Perhaps most importantly, the EIIC community ensured that Molly, a widow, did not have to fight cancer alone.
Immigrants like Molly frequently face difficult life moments alone, but the EIIC can bring solace, support, and real resources to vanquish despair.
Since the EIIC was established in 1988 the staff of has provided life-changing and at times life-saving services to immigrant women, men and families from around the globe.
The Center's immigration services help families navigate the immigration process, increasing the likelihood they remain intact.
Emerald Isle's seniors services connect those on the margins of our community, engaging potentially isolated seniors through programs like Meals-on-Wheels, Irish language groups and computer classes.
The EIIC's staff assist new and established immigrants as they search for and find work in New York.
The Center truly helps New York's immigrants to contribute to and prosper in U.S. society.
