Out & About

Bruce said that he'd no knowledge of this lawsuit and was not asked if he would participate as a named plaintiff and would not have agreed to do so even if he was asked.

Good on you Bruce for standing up for the little people in the music business when you said that you wanted your name taking off the lawsuit that ASCAP were bring against Connolly's Pub on West 45th Street in Midtown Manhattan.

Yes the "Boss" himself, Bruce Springsteen,  has apparently demanded  the immediate removal of his name from the lawsuit.

The suit was filed in Bruce Springsteen's name by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers against Connolly's where cover bands play his music.

Bruce said that he'd no knowledge of this lawsuit and was not asked if he would participate as a named plaintiff and would not have agreed to do so even if he was asked.

Well, Black 47 have no problems with that as they play all their own brand of music and have a new CD out now and also do a regular gig in Connolly's. I'm sure Larry Kirwin would love every cover band to play their music, isn't that right Larry?

All the lads headed down to Florida for the Super Bowl last week though a few of us had to stay in New York to watch it on the TV, but not Pat Burke (Pig'n'Whistle on 47th Street) and his partner in crime Dermot Kelly as they were seen having a few cocktails at the Tike Bar in their hotel... we have our spies guys!

Jeff Cleary's done it again with the 'Dublin: Then and Now' exhibit from The Irish American Heritage Museum which was displayed at the Irish Consulate last Wednesday. The exhibition is magnificent and contains dozens of images.

The internationally acclaimed exhibit of dramatic photographs portrays life on the gritty streets of Dublin and in its 'docklands' in the early 1960s. The full exhibition will be going on tour but beforehand it will be located in New York State's Capital City of Albany. For more information on the Museum call (518) 432-6598 or visit their web site at irishamericanheritagemuseum.org

You are invited to attend the following Irish Business Organization events: On Wednesday February 10 at 6.30pm there's an IBO Evening Networking Event at the Hilton Hotel in New York with Minister Billy Kelleher T.D. If you're interested in going, RSVP to a_ibo@yahoo.com or call (212) 750-8118.

On Thursday, February 11 at 7pm in Glucksman Ireland House, musician, writer, broadcaster and columnist, Larry Kirwan launches his new novel Rockin' the Bronx (Dufour Editions, 2010) in which Irish immigrant Sean Kelly encounters the excesses of the early 1980s in a tale that captures the visceral realities of life and death in the Irish-American neighborhood of Bainbridge Avenue.

Larry Kirwan was born in Wexford and immigrated to New York in the 1970s. He has written two books, Liverpool Fantasy and Green Suede Shoes: An Irish American Odyssey, and a collection of plays titled Mad Angels.

As you all probably know, he's also the leader of the rock band Black 47. This man is all over the place; is he famous or what?

The event features free admission to members of Glucksman Ireland House and to all students and faculty with a valid NYU ID card. For non-members, there's a $10 donation at the door for the general event series.

In order to ensure a seat at events there, please RSVP to (212) 998-3950 (selecting option 3) or email ireland.house@nyu.edu.

See you all next week.
