Out & About
Guess what? Daniel Craig, yes James Bond himself, was having a few cocktails in Nevada Smiths last Sunday and the Sunday before so that means he will probably be a regular every Sunday night as that is the only night he's off when performing on Broadway...
Along the way you meet some very interesting people that you never forget and one of them for me is Dave Cremin who I worked with as a bartender when I emigrated to the United States in the 80s.
Dave had a unique knack of making people laugh with his tricks and with his jokes we had a ball when we all went out as a group. The reason I am tell you all this is that Dave is performing in his own show with Powella Productions & The Lionhearted Players called the 'Kong Show: Thanks A Lot' on Monday November 23 at 7pm at The Grand Theater at the Producers Club (358 West 44th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues). You can purchase your tickets from Dave himself at Cronin & Phelan's and, in case you do not know where that is, it's on Broadway in Astoria, Queens or you can visit his website at thanksalot.eventbrite.com. I think that was a good plug for this rising star...
What a night we had last Wednesday at Tavern on the Green where the United, Restaurant and Tavern, Owners of New York had their Annual Dinner Dance with two very prestigious guests, "Man of the Year" John Connolly and "Industry Man of the Year" John Esposito.
The place was packed, not a seat to be had, and I should know because as a director of the organization I could not get a seat myself.
The atmosphere was fabulous and almost every bar and restaurant owner in New York must have been at the event along with all the suppliers.
If I had to mention all of those who were at the dinner it would take up the whole paper.
I shouldn't forget to mention that, of course, the entertainment was provided by the great Cunningham Brothers Band who were superb.
The Ireland-U.S. Council celebrated their 47th Annual Dinner at The Metropolitan Club last Thursday, honoring William C. Weldon, Chairman & CEO of Johnson & Johnson, who was presented with an award for Outstanding Achievement in 2009, and entertainment was provided by Irish singer Odette Woods.
C.I.E. International Tours had a lunch on Friday at The New York Athletic Club to celebrate the launch of their 2010 tour catalog and products. The event was hosted by Brian Stack, President & C.E.O., along with Chairman Dr. John Lynch and members of the Board of Directors, with all of them getting ready for a, hopefully, very good travel year to Ireland, Scotland and Europe. You can visit C.I.E.Tours by going to cietours.com.
The man for all seasons is none other than Adrian Flannelly who has the biggest Irish Radio show at this side of the Atlantic Ocean. Since he'll be soon celebrating forty years of music, news, views, interviews, sports, chat and commentary, we must try and get an interview with Adrian before he gets too famous... Okay boys?
Guess what? Daniel Craig, yes James Bond himself, was having a few cocktails in Nevada Smiths last Sunday and the Sunday before so that means he will probably be a regular every Sunday night as that is the only night he's off when performing on Broadway.
We were over to see Pat Burke at the Pig'N'Whistle (on West 47th Street just off Broadway) and let me tell you, since they remodelled it the place was jumping, upstairs and down, and the food was delicious.
We also headed down to the Galway Hooker and got to meet the manager Camaron who is now booking the Christmas Parties; so you better hurry up as they are selling out fast... Is it that time again? where does it go!
There are lots of other events happening too. As you know by now Larry Kirwan and Black 47 are celebrating their 20th anniversary (is it really that long?) at Connolly's Pub this Saturday November 21st and Saturday November 28th. Is that okay? Yes, Larry, I will do my best to be there.
The Irish Repertory Theatre is packing them in for The Emperor Jones show that will be playing until November 29th so do not miss this show. You can call for tickets on (212) 727-2737. I guarantee that you'll love this play, directed by Ciaran O'Reilly.
You want to see another great concert? Well, The Magic of Christmas starring Andy Cooney is coming to Carnegie Hall for December 8th with special guests Crystal Gale and Eileen Ivers and featuring Ryan Cooney, The Festival Youth Chorus, The Fordham Choir. This is an evening that is not to be missed.
