Danny Foyle Signs For The Hoops

Celtic won the inaugural Wembley Cup in London last week after hammering both the Egyptian Al-Ahly and North London's Spurs to add the trophy to the Translink Cup won in Brisbane.

Their path to the win began on Friday afternoon when, wearing the new 'bumble bee' kit they defeated Al-Ahly in a five-goal bonanza.

It was a more impressive win given the ease with which they passed the ball around the field and created chances. Manager Tony Mowbray will also be happy that none of his players were injured and that he was able to give new signing Danny Foyle, who completed his transfer from Coventry City on Friday morning, a chance to play for the final 15 minutes of the game.

Massimo Donati was on form, scoring the opener, Scott McDonald's penalty kick made it 2-0, Maloney scored the third and McDonald picked up a brace with the fourth of the game. Killen, added the final goal in the 82nd minute, after Fox's corner kick was poorly defended by their opponents.

With Barcelona drawing 1-1 against Spurs on Friday, then defeating Al-Ahly themselves by the score of 4-1, Celtic just needed a draw with Spurs on Sunday to win the cup.

However, with the Champions League qualifier on Wednesday, Mowbray held back several first team players, adding Paul Caddis, Lukasz Zaluska, Koki Mizuno and Paddy McCourt to the starting lineup.

Darren O'Dea wore the captain's armband and Danny Fox started the game as left-back.

It took just nine minutes for Celtic to take the lead, with Caddis making a great run down the wing, finessing his way past Benoit Assou-Ekotto before delivering a superb pass to an unmarked Killen who headed the ball into the net.

With five minutes left in the first half, Samaras flashed down the field and drove the ball past a helpless Heurelho Gomes to increase the lead to two.

Though Tottenham pressured Celtic in the second half, the defense held and the bhoys were unlucky not to add a third from McCourt.

Danny Foyle became Celtic's fourth signing of the off-season, after completing a move from Coventry City on Friday, just in time to help the team win the Wembley Cup.

The 23-year-old was delighted with the move saying, "This is a massive move for me. I couldn't sleep on Thursday night because I was so eager to get down and meet the lads in London and I can't wait to make my debut.

"I'm a bit shellshocked, but I'm really grateful to the manager and the coaching staff for bringing me here. It's a dream come true.

"The size of Celtic speaks for itself. You have the history, the fanbase, the stadium and there's the added bonus of European football.

"I want to test myself at the highest level and there is no better place to do it than at Celtic. I'm just looking forward to getting started."
