Unemployment Up To 11.9% In June

The seasonally adjusted Live Register total increased from 402,100 in May to 413,500 in June, an increase of 11,400.

In the year to June 2009, there was an unadjusted increase of 197,781 (up by 89.6%).

This compares with an unadjusted increase of 195,115 (an increase of 96.7%) in the year to May 2009.

The monthly increase in the seasonally adjusted series consisted of an increase of 7,700 men and an increase of 3,700 women.

The standardised unemployment rate in June was 11.9%. This compares with 10.2% in the first quarter of 2009, the latest seasonally adjusted unemployment rate from the Quarterly National Household Survey.

In the month, the estimated number of casual and part-time workers on the Live Register was 36,718 men and 31,414 women.
