Out & About
Guinness has just launched their 250th Anniversary drink that has the very same taste as it was 250 years ago
What happened last Friday night with John Duddy at the Prudential Center in Newark?
Did the judges get it wrong? John certainly gave us a great fight. He is one of the nicest fighters in the boxing business and I do hope he can rebound and get the Championship fights he deserves.
Remember this is the first time that he has lost and now more that ever he needs our support, so let's do it and give him all the confidence that we can as he did put the Irish back in boxing on this side of the Atlantic.
Guinness has just launched their 250th Anniversary drink that has the very same taste as it was 250 years ago when Arthur Guinness discovered it and we havn't looked back since.
The party was at The Perfect Pint (East 45th Street, just off 3rd Avenue) and, let me tell you, it was a blast and well supported by all the brand people and their distributors here in New York.
I met with Patrick McFall and Matt McGinley of Diageo who were pouring the freshest pints of Guinness that you have ever tasted in North America and, of course, who was in for a pint? None other than the coffee man himself Pete Scalley having a couple pints that were going down very well let me tell you.
For the last couple of weeks I have been telling you about a new bar and restaurant that has just opened on 17th Street between Union Square and Broadway and I did have the name wrong... The bar's name is Lillies and have to pay them a visit as it will blow your mind how beautiful it is. Again, congratulations to Tommy Burke and Frank McCole and their wonderful staff as it is a great place to hang out.
There's another new opening on the Westside called Gossips that is headed by one of the best impresarios in the business Danny Doohan and his partners.
Danny who has been at this bar and restaurant game a long time knows his business. These Irishmen know what they are doing and the new bar is a lovely place.
Opening night featured music from another well-known man around town, Fergus Begley, who had the place rocking and singing and who also represents Heineken in New York; I wonder what else he does?
I got to see New York's good samaritan Timmy Myles - the MTA Bar Cart barman at Penn Station this week. You can get meet him between Platforms 15 and 16 where he serves the Long Island Railroad passengers on the way home from work with a nice cool drink after a heavy day.
Now Tim made the headlines in Newsday last week. The story is that Timmy found a large sum of money on one of the Long Island trains before it departed the station and as a good Irishman like Timmy he handed it in to the Lost and Found in Penn Station.
The next day the passenger that lost the money came to claim it as he knew his money was in $100 and $20 bills. Now, was this man lucky that it was our Timmy, who is a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, who had found the cash.
To finish this great story the man that lost the money and got it back came to Timmy's Bar Cart to thank him and promised to pray for him, not that Timmy might need them. What a nice compensation that was, huh?
The next time you're in Penn Station after work call into Tracks Raw Bar and Grill and say hello to Timmy Myles and maybe buy him a drink for the great deed he did and you might, just might, get his autograph.
This man should be Sainted, where is Mayor Bloomberg with his medal of honesty for our Timmy?
