If you have a poem you'd like to see published in The Irish Examiner then send it to:

The Poetry Corner
The Irish Examiner USA
305 Madison Avenue, Suite 1462
New York
NY 10165

or, preferably, you can email it direct to
ronniemcginn@eircom.net.

If possible keep your poem to 20 lines. You may choose any subject you like, in any form you like as long as it's original. We look forward to hearing from you.

Simon Urbanski moved to Ireland from Poland in 2005. He wrote "Housewar", a poem we published a few months ago, during Business Studies Course (2006/07) in St. Colman's Community College in Midleton Co. Cork, where he now resides. At the moment he is in first year in CIT. There is a second part to this week's poem which we hope to include shortly.

"Last Breath/First Step"

Long time ago someone was born
Long time ago someone had to go that unknown road
Through the day and through the night
Through the love and through the hate
Sometimes it was light, sometimes it was dark
Do you remember that time?

First time when you laugh, first time when you cry
Disappointed for a very first time of crying the tears out
True smile and love until the end of time
Quiet and peaceful life until the feeling of primal screaming
The whole of the soul, because of Death taking someone close
Can you come back to that past?

Someone is missing, life is in pieces
You can sit and start to think
In your eyes all this world is so wild
And there is nobody to ask why
Is it the end of life?

Do you now realize what it is all about?
It is all about death which has many ways
There is no escape; it's like the smoke of cigarette
Your humanity is gone, it will be time to die
And maybe nobody will be around.
