Ronnie McGinn's Poetry Page

If you have a poem you'd like to see published in The Irish Examiner then send it to:

The Poetry Corner
The Irish Examiner USA
305 Madison Avenue, Suite 1462
New York
NY 10165

or, preferably, you can email it direct to
ronniemcginn@eircom.net.

If possible keep your poem to 20 lines. You may choose any subject you like, in any form you like as long as it's original. We look forward to hearing from you.

Someone once told me that every poem contains its opposite, or put another way there is a story behind every poem. But poems are made of words; all it takes is to write them down.

Thought I saw you at the Airport

Thought I saw you at the Airport,
Saw your face among the crowd,
People queuing and departing,
As so many more arrive

Surprised by a familiar face,
That one can sometimes find,
Among those long forgotten dreams,
In the attic of ones mind.

Yet it doesn't seem that long ago,
Since we stood side by side,
Here in this very terminal,
We kissed and waved goodbye.

You said you'd be coming back
And I promised to be here,
The word has turn'd, and turn'd, and turn'd
And days turned into years.

Thought I saw you at the Airport,
An old link to fragile times,
When failures pressure built new dreams,
In the attic of my mind.
