Hibernians Celebrate The Fourth - Donate Gifts To Archives

"The 4th of July is an appropriate time to share the unique story of our organization, as we approach 175 years of working and worshipping in America and doing our part to defend this nation against tyranny in its many forms."

National Hibernian President Jack Meehan announced the gift of Hibernian photos, artifacts and records to four archive sites.

"The 4th of July is an appropriate time to share the unique story of our organization," he said, "as we approach 175 years of working and worshipping in America and doing our part to defend this nation against tyranny in its many forms."

The donation consisted of CD's containing photos of Hibernian gatherings, photos of uniforms of the related Hibernian Knights and Hibernian Rifles, photos of an additional 62 stained glass windows gifted by the Order to Catholic churches (previous submissions included 200 window photos), and copies of the groups newspaper the Hibernian Digest from 2004-2007.

Stated Meehan: "I am proud and privileged to continue the practice begun by my late predecessor Tom Gilligan in making these records available to the Catholic University of America, the University of Notre Dame, the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, and the NYS Irish-American Heritage Museum."

"I urge all in the Hibernian family and others to show their pride in America and share their AOH artifacts with us so that the rich legacy of our organization is on display for all to see in 2011," he concluded.
