Reds Top The Blues In Liverpool Derby

Derby Draw Sees Them Relegated To Championship

Manchester United 4 Aston Villa 0


Cristiano Ronaldo's clever backheel put United on their way to a 4-0 victory over Villa and keeps their tenth EPL title bid firmly on track. Ronaldo then turned provider for Carlos Tevez to nod home the second before the break, and Wayne Rooney ended his run without scoring with two goals in the second half.

Bolton Wanderers 2 Arsenal 3


10-man Arsenal came back from two goals down to win 3-2 at the Reebok. Bolton opened the scoring when Matthew Taylor headed the ball home from close range. Gunners' midfielder Abou Diaby was then shown a red card for a tackle on Steinsson in the 31st minute. Gary Megson's side doubled the advantage two minutes before the break when Taylor's shot took a deflection and beat goalkeeper Manuel Almunia. William Gallas pulled one back in the 62nd minute and Arsene Wenger's side equalized from the penalty spot six minutes later after Gary Cahill had brought down Alexander Hleb and Robin Van Persie made no mistake. Jlloyd Samuel then directed a Hleb cross past Al Habsi from inside the six-yard box in injury time to give Arsenal the points.

Derby County 2 Fulham 3


Emanuel Villa scored twice for Derby but this 2-2 home draw against Fulham was not enough for the Rams who were finally relegated from the EPL. Paul Jewell's opened the scoring when Dean Leacock's shot struck the knee of Villa on the edge of the penalty area and wrong-footed goalkeeper Kasey Keller. Fulham side equalized in the 24th minute when Diomansy Kamara headed home Simon Davies' cross. The Cottagers took the lead when Leacock scored and own goal in the 78th minute and Villa equalized with a header two minutes later but it was not enough for the Rams.

Birmingham City 3 Manchester City 1


Mauro Zarate scored twice as Birmingham boosted their hopes of beating the drop with a 3-1 home win over City. Zarate opened the scoring with a lob five minutes before the interval and doubled his side's advantage in the 54th minute. Franck Queudrue was then shown a straight red card for a foul on Benjani Mwaruwari inside the penalty area. Elano stepped up to take the resulting spot-kick in the 59th minute and scored past Maik Taylor. Alex McLeish's side restored their two-goal advantage in the 75th minute when Gary McSheffrey converted from the penalty spot after he had been fouled by Sun Jihai.

Portsmouth 2 Wigan Athletic 0


Jermain Defoe's goalscoring continues as he netted in the 32nd and 90th minutes to give Portsmouth a 2-0 win over Wigan. Steve Bruce's side were handed an opportunity to equalize after Sylvain Distin fouled Antonio Valencia inside the penalty area but David James saved Ryan Taylor's spot kick.

Reading 0 Blackburn Rovers 0


Marek Matejovsky was sent off as Reading picked up a valuable point at home to Blackburn. The game came to life after the break. Matejovsky departed after two bookable offences before Reading keeper Marcus Hahnemann denied Zurab Khizanishvili and Morten Gamst Pedersen. Stephen Hunt should have won it late on, but failed to connect with Shane Long's cross and Brad Friedel pulled off a great save from Andre Bikey.

Sunderland 2 West Ham United 1


Kenwyne Jones and midfielder Andy Reid scored to help the Black Cats come from a goal behind to defeat the Hammers 2-1 at the Stadium of Light. Freddie Ljungberg had earlier opened the scoring in the 18th minute for the visitors from the right edge of the penalty area.

Chelsea 1 Middlesbrough 0


In Sunday's early game at Stamford Bridge, Portuguese defender Ricardo Carvalho scored the only goal. Chelsea missed opportunities to increase their lead but Boro fought hard for an equalizer and Afonso Alves hit the post and the crossbar in the second half, with David Wheater also heading against the bar.

Liverpool 1 Everton 0


In the 207th Merseyside derby, Fernando Torres scored his 21st league goal of the season in the seventh minute and Steven Gerrard hit a post. Liverpool became increasingly nervous as the match progressed but hung on to move five points clear of their nearest rivals with six matches of the campaign remaining.

Tottenham Hotspur1 Newcastle United 4


At White Hart Lane, Kevin Keegan's men fell behind to Darren Bent's opener but goals from Nicky Butt and Geremi put the visitors ahead before Michael Owen scored his third in as many games for his club. Obafemi Martins added a fourth with eight minutes remaining, latching onto Joey Barton's pass and finishing calmly.
