Red Devils Go Five Points Clear At The Top

Chelsea Leapfrog The Gunners Into Second

Tottenham Hotspur 2 Portsmouth 0

In Saturday's early game at White Hart Lane, Darren Bent came off the bench with 20 minutes left to help Tottenham to a 2-0 win over Portsmouth. Bent gave Spurs the lead in the 80th minute when a shot from Dimitar Berbatov bounced into the path of Bent who headed home from close range. Two minutes later Spurs' record signing delivered a low cross from left which fellow substitute Jamie O'Hara slotted into an empty net.

Newcastle United 2 Fulham 0

Goals from Mark Viduka and Michael Owen helped Newcastle to a 2-0 victory over Fulham, giving Kevin Keegan his first EPL win since he returned to St James' Park. It ended a run of eight league games without a win since Keegan took over and was the Magpies' first league victory since their 1-0 win over the same opposition at Craven Cottage in December.

Reading 2 Birmingham City 1

At the Madejski Stadium, Andre Bikey bagged a brace of goals to help Reading's survival hopes with a 2-1 win over Birmingham. The Cameroon international headed a John Oster free-kick past Maik Taylor in the 31st minute. Mauro Zarate equalized for Birmingham in the 64th minute but Bikey got his head on a Nicky Shorey free-kick 15 minutes later to give his side the points.

Blackburn Rovers 3 Wigan Athletic 1

Roque Santa Cruz opened the scoring in the 12th minute but Rovers' defender Christopher Samba was then shown a red card after he was judged to have fouled Emile Heskey in the penalty area. Marlon King took the resulting spot-kick and put the ball past Brad Friedel. But Mark Hughes' side again took the lead when Santa Cruz knocked the ball down into the path of Roberts and he scored from 18 yards out. Santa Cruz headed his second of the afternoon in the 63rd minute before Wigan's Wilson Palacios was sent off for a second-bookable offence.

Aston Villa 0 Sunderland 1

Michael Chopra's 83rd-minute strike gave Sunderland's hopes of avoiding relegation a lift as they recorded a one-goal victory at Villa.

Middlesbrough 1 Derby County 0

Tuncay Sanli gave Boro a 1-0 win over bottom side Derby with a great individual goal from the edge of the penalty area in the 32nd minute.

Bolton Wanderers 0 Manchester City 0

At the Reebok Stadium Bolton lost further ground on their relegation rivals as they were held to a goalless draw by City.

Everton 1 West Ham United 1

In Saturday's late kick-off, Everton suffered a blow to their hopes of finishing in the fourth Champions League place after they were held to a 1-1 draw by West Ham. Ayegbeni Yakubu scored his 14th league goal of the season to give the Toffees the lead in the eighth minute with a neat finish. But West Ham striker Dean Ashton equalized in the 68th minute.

Manchester United 3 Liverpool 0

In Sunday's early game at Old Trafford, Wes Brown had headed United ahead after 34 minutes before Liverpool were reduced to 10 men when Javier Mascherano, booked earlier, was sent off for dissent. After the break Cristiano Ronaldo and then Nani scored goals in the final quarter of the game to secure the victory and their place at the top of the table for United.

Chelsea 2 Arsenal 1

Later on Sunday Didier Drogba struck twice as Chelsea came from behind to beat Arsenal 2-1 at Stamford Bridge. Bacary Sagna, who later went off injured, headed the Gunners in front from a near-post corner on the hour. However, Drogba netted twice in eight minutes to turn the game around to move the Blues above Arsenal into second place, but still five points behind United - who have yet to visit Stamford Bridge.
