Ronnie McGinn's Poetry Page

If you have a poem you'd like to see published in The Irish Examiner then send it to:

The Poetry Corner
The Irish Examiner USA
305 Madison Avenue, Suite 1462
New York
NY 10165

or, preferably, you can email it direct to
ronniemcginn@eircom.net.

If possible keep your poem to 20 lines. You may choose any subject you like, in any form you like as long as it's original. We look forward to hearing from you.

An acquaintance asked: "What on earth is poetry good for anyway?" The answer came from the depths of some inner thoughts: In a restless world it shows that certain ways of living are better than certain other ways. It shows thoughts that may enrich and beautify and strengthen our lives. In a world inhabited by a human family forever in conflict, selfish, disintegrated, fomenting prejudice and hate, poetry emphasizes those elements in life which complement each other rather than contradict each other, which bring people together rather than separate and divide. In a world obsessed by fear it helps us to learn to bear everyday trials and annoyances gently and calmly, teaches us there can be no inward peace or happiness without some elemental faith in life's essential goodness. Such in my humble opinion are some of "the things that poetry is good for."

The Vibes of Spring

Oh have you felt the sunny frills
That help the spring explode,
Or seen the golden daffodils
Along the country road?

And have you heard the birdies sing
Their song of joy that fills,
The heart of every living thing,
Around the sleeping hills?

And have you seen a naked tree
Throw on a summer dress,
Or wonder at the mystery
That nature's way's possess?

Of all the virtues that we do,
How great it is to give,
And God has given beauty to
The world on which we live.

Ah thank You for the seasons Lord
The buzz, the vibes, the ways,
And thank You for the reasons Lord
By which we spend our days.
