Ronnie McGinn's Poetry Page

If you have a poem you'd like to see published in The Irish Examiner then send it to:

The Poetry Corner
The Irish Examiner USA
305 Madison Avenue, Suite 1462
New York
NY 10165

or, preferably, you can email it direct to
ronniemcginn@eircom.net.

If possible keep your poem to 20 lines. You may choose any subject you like, in any form you like as long as it's original. We look forward to hearing from you.

It's hard to believe St Patrick's Day is over! It's even harder to recover but that's another story. Somehow or other we got ourselves a little out of sync, so apologies to all if our poem this week is a few days late, still that doesn't make it any less enjoyable.

Sprig of Shamrock

Just a sprig of Shamrock
It means so very much
The Faith that Patrick taught through it
And the green we love so much.
We wear it with great pride and joy
On this St Patrick's Day.
To all our loved ones here and far away.
This is what we have to say:

"Pin on your Sprig of Shamrock,
Hold your head up high.
Think of that old saying
And you will surely smile
Don't forget to wet it
At the nearest pub you go
But stop before you drown it
Or you won't see Shamrock any more."
