Manchester United's victory over Fulham cut Arsenal's lead at the top of the English Premier League to just a point. Owen Hargreaves opened the scoring for United in the 15th minute after Carlos Tevez was fouled on the edge of the area. The former Bayern Munich midfielder took the free-kick around the wall to give him his first goal in a United shirt. Park Ji-Sung added the second a minute before the break, heading home a Paul Scholes' cross from close range and Fulham's Simon Davies put John O'Shea's cross into his own net in the 72nd minute to finish off the Cottagers.

Chelsea recorded a 4-0 victory over West Ham at Upton Park despite being reduced to 10 men. Frank Lampard opened the scoring in the 17th minute from the penalty spot after Anton Ferdinand fouled Salomon Kalou inside the penalty area. The Blues made it 2-0 three minutes later when Joe Cole drilled a low shot past goalkeeper Robert Green. Michael Ballack added a third in the 22nd minute. Lampard was sent off in the 36th minute for violent conduct but Ashley Cole completed the scoring.

An own goal from Jussi Jaaskelainen put the Reds on the way to their victory and second-half goals from Ryan Babel and Fabio Aurelio sealed the win. Sub Tamir Cohen headed home a Matt Taylor corner with 11 minutes to go for Bolton.

Everton 3 Portsmouth 1

In Sunday's late game, two goals from Yakubu and one from Tim Cahill saw off Pompey at Goodison. Jermain Defoe had equalized for Portsmouth before the Toffees took control of the game.
