Irish Take More Trips Overseas In December

There were 553,700 overseas trips by Irish residents in December 2007 compared with 449,700 in December 2006, an increase of 104,000.

In December 2007 there were 523,000 overseas trips to Ireland, compared with 558,700 in December 2006, a decrease of 35,700.

The breakdown of visitors to Ireland by area of residence for December 2007 shows that trips to Ireland by residents of Great Britain decreased by 40,800.

There was a decrease of 1,700 in the number of trips to Ireland by residents of other European countries.

Trips to Ireland by residents of North America increased by 7,600, while trips from other areas fell by 900.

British residents accounted for 51% of all overseas trips to Ireland, followed by those from the U.S. at 10%.
