Cork Players' Strike Ends After Court-Mediated Arbitration

The three main points of the binding arbitration are as follows

  1. Teddy Holland and his selectors to stand down.
  2. New Manager to choose his own selectors.
  3. Players not to strike again as long as the County Board adheres to the binding arbitration.

Following a third intervention by Labour Court Mediator, Kieran Mulvey the Cork players strike is now over. Mulvey negotiated a binding arbitration agreement which both the County Board and the player have agreed to.

The three main points of the binding arbitration are as follows

  1. Teddy Holland and his selectors to stand down.
  2. New Manager to choose his own selectors.
  3. Players not to strike again as long as the County Board adheres to the binding arbitration.

That the players strike is now over was emphasised by the fact that yesterday Gerald McCarthy held his first training session with the hurling squad at Pairc Ui Chaoimh.

However there is still some way to go before the issue of the County Board's relationship with Teddy Holland and his management team are confirmed. Yesterday two of Holland's nominated selectors refused to stand down as expected. A County Board meeting has been arranged for this evening (Monday) when the last hessages of this drama will be played out. To finalize matters it is expected that the Board will ask delegates to reverse their decision of the 20th of November last when Holland was fast tracked into the job of Manager. This should bring closure to a very forgettable affair.
