Goal Supports UN Peacekeepers In Kenya

"If the international community cares about the poor and vulnerable in Kenya then they most be prepared to take positive action to alleviate the suffering."

GOAL have announced their support for Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga who called for the deployment of UN peacekeepers in the troubled East African country.

In a statement John O'Shea said "Mr Odinga is right. A neutral force is urgently required to keep the protestors and the men of violence apart. If this is not done the death toll will continue to soar alarmingly".

Close to 1,000 people have already lost their lives in a spiral of violence, sparked by what many perceived to have been rigged presidential elections recently.

"If the international community cares about the poor and vulnerable in Kenya then they most be prepared to take positive action to alleviate the suffering.

"Furthermore the Irish Government can help by lending its support to this form of action".
