Northern Ireland's Still In The Race To Qualify

While Scotland's Dreams Are Crushed By Italy

Northern Ireland 2 Denmark 1

Northern Ireland striker David Healy scored the winner against Denmark to become the record scorer in a European qualifying campaign. Healy overtook Davor Suker's 12-goal mark, which was set 12 years ago. He scored his 13th goal of the campaign with a brilliant chip 10 minutes from time at Windsor Park. In difficult, flooded conditions, the Danes had taken the lead in the 51st minute through Nicklas Bendtner. Warren Feeney headed in an equalizer 10 minutes later to set the stage for Healy's stunning strike.

Scotland 1 Italy 2

Scotland's hopes of qualification for Euro 2008 came to an end at Hampden at the weekend as they lost against world champions Italy. Hopes of participating at next summer's finals appeared to be all but over when Luca Toni fired the visitors into the lead in the second minute, before Barry Ferguson threw Scotland a lifeline. Christian Panucci inflicted the fatal blow in the 90th minute to guarantee Italy and France would be heading to Austria and Switzerland.

Wales 2 Republic of Ireland 2

Jason Koumas scored twice as Wales fought back for the point in the Euro 2008 qualifier against the Republic of Ireland in Cardiff. The Wigan midfielder headed Wales ahead in the first half, but slowly the Irish forced their way back into the lead with goals from Robbie Keane and Kevin Doyle. As the second period moved to a close, the Irish were on the brink of their first win in Group D since March, a run that has cost them qualification and Steve Staunton his job as manager.
