Irish Trips Overseas Up By Over 86,000 In August

There were 815,600 overseas trips by Irish Residents in August 2007 compared with 729,500 in August 2006, an increase of 86,100, according to figures released this week by the Central Statistics Office.

In August there were 962,700 overseas trips to Ireland, compared with 928,800 in August 2006, another increase of 33,900.

The breakdown of visitors to Ireland by Area of Residence for August 2007 shows that trips to Ireland by residents of Great Britain increased by 9,200.

There was an increase of 27,600 in the number of trips to Ireland by residents of other European countries.

Trips to Ireland by residents of North America decreased by 4,100, while trips from other areas grew by 1,200.

Residents of Great Britain accounted for 49% of all overseas trips to Ireland, followed by residents of USA at 13%.
