Ronnie McGinn's Poetry Page

If you have a poem you'd like to see published in The Irish Examiner then send it to:

The Poetry Corner
The Irish Examiner USA
305 Madison Avenue, Suite 1462
New York
NY 10165

or, preferably, you can email it direct to
ronniemcginn@eircom.net.

If possible keep your poem to 20 lines. You may choose any subject you like, in any form you like as long as it's original. We look forward to hearing from you.

Restless searching and sometimes sanctimonious fantasies can create a sense of the sacramental about writing poetry. After all poets are the parents of dreams and dreams can lead us to our goals. But loss can destroy any feeling of euphoria that success can bring, leaving a cold emptiness that is difficult to comprehend and even harder to express.

Birthday Party!

Christy! I bought us a bottle,
To honor our age old bet,
You don't have to say,
It's your birthday today,
How could I ever forget?

Remember our mad beginning,
We were all wild young and new
And life was a game
We played without shame
Together we made it through.

Those were the days those were the nights,
Nothing that we couldn't do,
It's great to let go
Let the memories flow
While sharing a drink with you!

Ah! The bottle is nearly empty,
It's time to call it a day.
Enjoyed our old chat
And I thank you for that
Now I'd better be on my way.

And oh! Happy Birthday Christy
And here's to the way back when
And if your still here
'Round this time next year
I'll visit to your grave once again
