Ronnie McGinn's Poetry Page

If you have a poem you'd like to see published in The Irish Examiner then send it to:

The Poetry Corner
The Irish Examiner USA
1040 Jackson Avenue, Third Floor
Long Island City
NY 11101

or, preferably, you can email it direct to
ronniemcginn@eircom.net.

If possible keep your poem to 20 lines. You may choose any subject you like, in any form you like as long as it's original. We look forward to hearing from you.

Phyllis Coughlan writes from her heart with a feeling of sincerity that is the envy of us all. She has been writing poetry for a number of years but is a little shy about promoting her talent. She certainly has no need to be, her poetry speaks for itself and we hope to hear a lot more from her in the future.

Memories

Enjoy your children while they are young,
Don't put it off until they are big and strong,
Time is precious and moves so fast,
And there is no little one to sit on your lap.
Those little eyes that looked up at you,
Believing every word to be true.
Play with them while they are small,
For this is what they remember after all
For childhood's day slips away
and your little flock are gone.
O! but what memories you can retain for
The joy and truth of children remain.

You struggle and bear all the heartaches for them,
and wish in your heart you could bear it for them,
But, alas it's not so, as they're got to grow
Through the hardship and struggle of life,
For this is why enjoy your child
While their worries are still far away,
And remember the joy and smiles
When you gave your time to play.

O! There was a day when you looked around,
And your house seemed to be upside down,
With toys here, there and everywhere,
But sad is the day when things are stored away
Toys nowhere to be seen,
The house that seemed too small,
Is now big after all,
And no little ones to be seen.
